Player Stats Portal update – New Report !

As TT (Thomas Tuchel) manages his first games as the new England manager, we here at TT (TransparaTech) have developed and deployed a new reporting concept for the Player Stats Portal ! 😊
The new report can be found on Page 9 and is called Six Week Form Segmentation.

Whilst some value can be gained upon opening the report, the really powerful insights from this one require us to utilise the slicers to draw out these insights I would suggest… I’ll do some screen shotted examples below but, firstly let me describe for you how the data has been manipulated in the background database.
We’ve taken as a baseline the concepts from the Weekly Form Comparison and the Player Form reports, Pages 7 and 8 on the Player Stats Portal, which we often find the most useful tools for spotting trends in player form.
Weekly performances can be a little ‘mis-leading’ though, we wanted a more ‘stable’ weekly view of a players form i.e. less influenced by performance ‘spikes’. So, we’ve applied a six weekly segmentation to the model – i.e. Segment Number 1 is Weeks 1 to 6, Segment Number 2 is Weeks 2 to 7….. up to the latest 6 week segment which at time of writing is Weeks 23 to 28.
Now we also wanted to reduce the exhaustive list of players here and only focus on the top performers in each position. So, we pull into the model just the Top 5 players within each segment by position i.e. Top 5 Goalkeepers by Pts scored in weeks 1 to 6 into Segment number 1, Top 5 Defenders by Pts scored in weeks 1 to 6 into Segment number 1 etc etc etc
For example, if we filter just on the 23rd Six Week segment (which is the most recent 6 weeks, 23 to 28) we can see the Top 5 Goalkeepers :-

and then top 5 Defenders etc :-

That’s how it works, now by expanding that out we can gain a whole bunch of further useful insights, for example, looking over the whole season :-

we were frankly amazed to see J. Pickford (£3.7m) – great news for Thomas Tuchel?! 😆 – second to the more obvious M. Salah (£7.2m) – highlighting Pickford as the most ‘stable’ Goalkeeper ahead of M. Sels (£3.2m) who actually has the highest number of points for Goalkeepers in the game.
Focusing on a position such as Midfield:-

we can see visually how C. Palmer’s (£5.8m) form has really tailed off over the second half of the season. And, knowing that B. Saka (£5.8m) has been injured for the last few months, we can see how consistent he was at the beginning of the season before this injury and thus consider bringing him back for the final set of fixtures (perhaps to replace Palmer)?!

Filtering on Defenders, look how well the Palace defence has been doing lately… or how say G. Magalhaes (£4.3m) only really over-performed in the very early part of the season.
We can gain insights on the cheaper players e.g. here <= £4m over just the most recent five, 6 week segments:-

Or consider the form of specific clubs e.g. only O. Watkins (£5.7m) of any interest from Villa?! :-

Or, whom to pick from City for the Cup… ? :-

Only 6 City players have shown any consistency of form this season, J. Doku (£4.4m) only for one segment a long time ago. P. Foden (£5.4m) appears to be the best choice, with E. Haaland’s (£8.5m) only spell of good form now a distant memory ! 😆
Anyways, happy playing (Gaz I know you’ll love this report ?!) and please feel free to provide feedback via the comments section, would love to hear of any useful insights you can draw out of this report…
