Week 6 – Carabao Cup Chaos and a case for the (Arsenal) defence

Another double game week for the teams competing in the third round of the Carabao Cup – this has led to another interesting points haul opportunity for the fringe Premier League club squad players, such as D. Gomez (£2.6m) of Brighton – his four goal haul against Barnsley makes him star player of the week with the season’s highest weekly score so far (26 points!) and also moves him into the Team of the Season as fourth highest points scorer !

All this and he’s only registered goals against lower league opposition in the Carabao Cup… 😆😯

In fact, the only player in the Team of the Week who didn’t play in the Carabao third round is, player of the season E. Haaland (£8.3m) who has increased his lead at the top to 13 points.

Haaland is also now the highest % Picked By player in the game with 6% of gamers moving him in this week.

A major shift to the Team of the Season this week, firstly a change in formation from 5 defenders to 5 midfielders.

R. Roefs (£2.6m) takes Vicario’s spot as the top keeper and represents a real bargain ‘enabler’ if Sunderland can maintain their great start to the season (hold that thought for now until you’ve read the below 😆)

G. Magalhaes‘s (£4.5m) last minute winner at St James’ Park means he comes into the side for the first time this season, along with fellow debutants, the aforementioned D. Gomez (£2.6m), J. Palhinha (£3.8m) and I. Tiago (£3.6m). E. Fernandez (£4.3m) returns to the top eleven.

Out of form players being sold this week:-

include F. (Waste of Money?!) Wirtz (£5.0m) and players from underperforming United, Villa and Forest.

We have a few weeks of Premier League action only now before the potential ‘randomness’ of the Carabao Cup comes into effect again – be wary of the impact of the Cup games on the TFF Fixture Ticker – found on our player stats portal :-

e.g. Brentford and Man City’s ease of fixtures above is very much scewed by the Carabao Cup fixtures…. and the likes of Haaland and Tiago haven’t started those games in previous rounds…

We’ve also included a link on the Fixtures page, page 6 on the Portal, to a useful Clean Sheet Odds tool, click on the image to visit the host website which enables you to examine clean sheet odds week by week… NB Sunderland at the very bottom of this list before considering bringing in Roefs?! 😆

With two Arsenal defenders now in the Team of the Season and with Arsenal topping the forthcoming fixture difficulty rankings, considering they’ve just got through a tough set of opening games, Arsenal still have the games meanest defence:-

Now would seem to be an opportune time to bring in Arsenal defensive assets if you don’t have them already…
